Raising awareness of polio among educators
29 – 30 training took place in November of this year, which was initiated by representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health, epidemiologists of the Transcarpathian Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Representatives of the Department of Education also took part in this training, culture, youth and sports of Rakhiv city council.
The main goal of the training is to raise the awareness of education workers of the Transcarpathian region about poliomyelitis, popularization of vaccination, communicating the role of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and raising polio awareness among parents.
During the event, Global Polio Eradication Initiatives were discussed (situation in the world); outbreaks of poliomyelitis in Ukraine, including in Zakarpattia region; strategies for polio eradication; effective means of communication with parents; the state of vaccination in Zakarpattia region and the role of education workers in supporting vaccination are presented (legal and administrative aspects); focuses on the most common questions parents/guardians have about polio and other vaccines.
13 December 2022 representatives of the Department of Education, culture, of youth and sports of the Rakhiv City Council and the education sector, Health Care, of culture and sports of the Rakhiv Military Administration held seminar for medical professionals educational institutions to raise the level of awareness about poliomyelitis among parents.
During the discussion, the speakers emphasized, that one of the most common reasons for the lack of routine or repeated vaccinations in children is the religious preferences of parents, lack of awareness, mass labor migration and others.
In the focus of the discussion is the work with forced migrants, primarily those, who live in educational institutions of the region, and representatives of the Roma nationality, in particular, parents of children of preschool and school age.
We want to hope, that the principle: aware means half protected, will make it possible to intensify outreach work and improve the implementation of polio eradication initiatives.
